Initial PHRI Certification Exams Scheduled

IHRIM to Offer Four Tests this Fall

The International Association for Human Resources Information Management (IHRIM), will offer four initial (pilot) exams this fall for its new Professional of Human Resources Information (PHRI) certification. The PHRI is the only independent certification program available in the field of human resources information management (HRIM).

The exam is designed to assess the knowledge and competencies of professionals in the HR technology field. Passing the exam indicates a demonstrated comprehensive understanding and proficiency of the defined body of knowledge in HRIM.

“A PHRI credential is a way to demonstrate your competency, show your commitment to the profession and provide you with a competitive advantage in job advancement,” said Lynne Mealy, IHRIM president and CEO.

Professionals who should consider taking the exam work in the HR technology area as a practitioner residing in HR or in an IT organization, or is a consultant/vendor whose primary focus is HR-related systems.

The initial exam will contain approximately 100 multiple-choice questions and will be delivered by computer at a proctored test site. Participants have two hours to complete the test. Those who pass the exam will be credentialed for three years, but must earn 60 recertification credit hours to maintain it.

Application fees are $75 for both IHRIM members and non-members. Exam fees are $200 for IHRIM members and $300 for non-members. Those late to the exam will be assessed a $50 late fee. To register, visit http://www.ihrim.org/certification/Schedule.htm.

Held in conjunction with the HR Southwest Conference in Fort Worth, Tex., this full-day workshop also will describe key metrics that can be used to evaluate the staffing levels (e.g., head count versus plan, bench strength, turnover), and staffing and development effectiveness (e.g., quality of applicants attracted, offer acceptance, regret turnover, employee performance, training effectiveness). Additionally, attendees will learn data reporting techniques to help them more effectively communicate intended messages to target audiences.

Dr. Kevin D. Carlson, associate professor of management at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, will facilitate the course. Carlson teaches courses in human resource management, productivity and quality improvement, and applied human resource information systems. He currently is a member of IHRIM’s board of directors.
